This year the cold season was a little more intense in our home.

Everything started because we changed the nursery for our son, and with this we had a new routing, a new schedule and of course some new viruses.

After one week in the new place my son arrived home with a cold, that is normal, but this cold came overloaded.

Long story short, I was the more affected, I started with pneumonia that evolved into sinusitis and then I don’t know if the pneumonia never went away or if it came back but i was treated for pneumonia twice. After all that and when we thought that the cold season was over we  ended the year with covid. In short last more than a month with flu, cough and it was not fun.

So here in this post I want to share some recommendations that really help me to survive this big flu combo.

Go to the Doctor

I know I know this is pretty obvious, but for me is the best thing you can do, trust your instincts and go to the doctor, if you feel that something is off, that this is not a normal flu, that you have too many weeks with the cough, it is always better to ask your doctor’s help.

Humidifier

If you live in a country like Canada where the environment is quite dry during autumn and winter and you constantly use heating in your home, you need an humidifier, this is maybe something that your already know, but this is indispensable is you have a big flu like mine. The cough, sore throat and nasal congestion worsen when we are exposed to a very dry environment, and since we need heating, a humidifier is excellent to have a balanced environment.

I really like this humidifier as it allows you to program it and control the humidity levels automatically.

Wash your nose

Really, wash your nose, this helped me a lot to feel relief when I had the sinusitis, of course the antibiotics help to stop the infection, but I felt my nose very congested and washing my nose helped me a lot to get better faster and to be more comfortable

You can do it using a  syringe, but we find this nasal cleanser that all the family can use and it was more efficient.

Nebulization machine

Ok I do not really know how to call this machine, but it is used to dispense medication or saline solution by oxygen compressed air through a mask. This nebulization helps you with an intense cough and I really felt the change right after I used it. We just put saline solution and that help us a lot to calm the cough.

Well to finish off course we try all the grandma recipes, infusions with honey, lemon and ginger that help to relieve sore throat, vicks vaporub, etc etc.

I hope that all this tips can help you, and if you are going through a cold season, take good care of yourself, rest and follow the doctor indications. I wish you a fast recovery. Bye
